The Lexus GS marks a line of midsize luxury sedans introduced in 1991 and still in production today. These models attempt to mix luxury and sporty performance. All models use a four-door sedan body style with a front-engine, rear-drive or front-engine, four-wheel drive layout. There have been four generations of the GS. The second generation includes the 2004 Lexus GS430. It contains a more powerful engine than earlier models.
The GS430 variant within the GS line gets attention for its high performance and top-notch luxury features. Although highly rated for performance and luxury, the 2004 Lexus GS430 also comes priced toward the upper end of the spectrum.

The GS430 has an aerodynamic exterior with gradual curves from the front through the rear. The front end remains the most recognizable section of the 2004 Lexus GS430 with the recognizable Lexus grille and logo centrally located, and this surrounded by four headlights. Some of the exterior features include high-intensity discharge headlights, a power moonroof, heated mirrors that dim automatically, alloy 16-inch alloy wheels and an optional upgrade to low-profile, 17-inch five-spoke wheels along with an optional rear spoiler.
The GS430 seats five comfortably with two front bucket seats and rear bench seating. Four adults fit comfortably, but the rear feels crowded with three adults. The trunk offers a descent 14.8 cubic feet of space. Lexus offers various trims to choose from, all with high-quality materials like California walnut wood and quality leather. The driver sits in front of a well-placed, three-pod, electronic gauge cluster. The steering wheel comes trimmed in leather, and the controls seem placed for the driver’s convenience. The panel adjusts its brightness automatically for increased visibility and an electronic compass sits on the dashboard.
Some of the standard interior features for the 2004 Lexus GS430 include heated front seats, 10-way power adjustable front seats, perforated leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, an anti-theft immobilizer, a quality seven-speaker sound system with a six-disc CD changer, keyless entry, and power tilt and telescopic steering. Some of the available options for the interior include an upgraded 10-speaker Mark Levinson sound system and DVD navigation with maps of all of the U.S. and Canada.
Performance & Handling
The 2004 GS430 has a high-performance, 300-hp, 4.3-liter V-8 that achieves 325 lb-ft of torque. It uses a five-speed automatic transmission with overdrive that provides smooth but quick acceleration. The 2004 Lexus GS430 uses variable valve timing with ""intelligence"" technology. According to Lexus the GS430 can go from zero to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, which marks the fastest time for a Lexus in 2004.
The engine under the hood feels powerful and drivers feel connected to the road. At the same time acceleration seems smooth and the ride very comfortable in most conditions. Handling remains fairly accurate, the equal of just about anything within its class.
Some safety features on the 2004 Lexus GS430 include seat-mounted, side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags for the front, all-disc anti-lock brakes which use brake assist in emergency situations, Skid Control electronic stability, and daytime running lights.
