Lexus IS300

The Lexus IS300 is the member of a family of entry-level luxury cars manufactured by Lexus, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Company in Japan. The Lexus IS was not originally intended or designed to be a luxury car. Lexus decided to design the ideal luxury sedan only after conducting extensive marketing research over time.

Lexus IS300 Origins

The Lexus IS300 is marketed by different names in some countries. Different variants of the Lexus IS300 are available worldwide, including the Lexus IS300 Sports Sedan and the Lexus IS300 SportCross, which is a cross between a wagon and sedan. The Lexus IS300 was introduced in 1999, but was commercially available from 2000 tp 2005. The Lexus IS series of luxury cars was introduced to compete with the BMW 3-Series and the Mercedes S Class.

About the Lexus IS300

The Lexus IS series is known for being a competitively priced, quiet, and refined luxury vehicle. The introduction of the Lexus IS300 changed the established image of the IS series since this variant was acclaimed for being sporty and was targeted toward outdoor enthusiasts.

The Lexus IS300 featured a wedge-shaped body. Its sharp exterior edges gave the car a condensed high-performance look. The car was known for its sticky performance tires and firmly tuned suspension. The Lexus IS300 was the best car for any person who expected a sturdy sedan with a spirited driving experience at a very competitive price.

Lexus IS300 Features

The Lexus IS300 was the second-generation car that was introduced as a successor to the Lexus IS 250. The design of the Lexus IS300 was completely overhauled to give it a compact and sporty look. The car was introduced with only a five-speed automatic transmission option. The company decided to offer a manual transmission option a year later to satisfy drivers who weren’t happy with the automatic transmission. Only a few cosmetic changes were introduced in later years.

The Lexus IS300 was rear-drive with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that delivers 228 horsepower. It had the same engine used in the Lexus GS 300 sedan. The 3.0 liter engine was capable of delivering 218 lb-ft of torque, which could propel the car to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. The 3.0-liter engine in the Lexus IS300 featured the variable valve timing technology that boosted the engine's performance and also improved fuel economy and emissions levels.

Lexus IS300 Evolution

The Lexus IS300, introduced in 2001, had fewer luxury and safety components when compared to its successors. The 3.0-liter engine delivering 215 horsepower and 218 lb-ft of torque remained the same in all versions of the IS300. The car was only available in a five-speed automatic transmission variant. The designers kept the styling of the Lexus IS300 subtle, yet aggressive. The tagline, ""The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection"" suited the Lexus IS300. The body of the car was tough, and the strong suspension kept the quality of the ride optimal even in bad road conditions. The high-intensity headlights were mounted up front, which helped the overall shape achieve a low drag coefficient.

The Lexus IS300 SportCross, a four-door hatchback sedan, was introduced by the company in 2002. The engine and performance of the car remained unchanged, but Lexus introduced a sports-tuned suspension to attract young, trend-conscious buyers. A nice absorbent suspension, a well-balanced rear chassis, and convenient steering made it an ideal car for relaxed, long-distance travel.

The Lexus IS300 was offered with the same engine specifications, but the company added some luxury and safety components in the car to silence critics. The Lexus IS300 was available with a five-speed manual transmission for those who were not happy with the automatic transmission. The 2002 and later versions of the Lexus IS300 had adequate styling and a vivid color palette, which made it look young and sporty.

A center armrest, side curtain bags, auto-dimming mirrors, and stability control were added in the standard equipment list. The navigation system and full-leather seating were optional features. The stability control option was only limited to models with an automatic transmission. After overhauling the car’s interior and exterior, the company also modified the tagline to ""The Passionate Pursuit of Perfection"" to embrace the new style of the car.
