2006 Lexus LS430 Review

One of the nicest luxury sedans on the market.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The LS430 sedan is part of the relatively new luxury division of Lexus. The 2006 model was manufactured with an incredibly smooth and powerful V-8 that makes it one of the fastest luxury vehicles on the market. The 2006 Lexus LS430 is part of a redesign made in 2001 that reclaimed the V-8 engine. Its extended wheelbase was made for more room inside, as well as a greater selection of interior luxury materials. Options are almost endless and owners can count on the best service they can imagine.

The Range

Body Styles: Luxury sedan
Engines: 4.3-liter V-8
Transmissions: Six-speed automatic with auto-manual gate
Models: LS430

What's New

The LS430 remains relatively unchanged in the 2006 model year. However, a new SAE measurement requisite causes the horsepower rating to drop slightly this model year.

The 2006 Lexus LS430 is a longer vehicle than many of the other cars in its luxury range. The wheelbase is a long 115.2 inches. Seventeen-inch wheels are fitted onto the car, and front swivel headlights are included as a standard feature. These lights will move left to right while turning corners to keep the field of vision illuminated. Also included are a moon roof, power trunk closer, Xenon high-intensity discharge lamps, and many others.

The 2006 Lexus LS430’s Interior is extremely luxurious. Every surface is soft to the touch. The seats are covered in supple leather, and the dash and door materials give slightly when touched. All of the gauges are well-designed and easy-to-read, with electroluminescent lighting. Legroom and headroom throughout the vehicle are ample enough for even the tallest passenger or driver. The trunk is large as well, with nearly 20.2 cubic feet of storage space.

Standard interior features include a 14-way power driver’s seat, a 10-way power adjustable front passenger’s seat, auto-dimming mirrors, an in-dash CD changer, and a rear sunshade. Some optional features include heated and cooled front seats, a voice-activated navigation system, a rear backup camera, and a 240-watt Mark Levinson audio system.

The Custom Luxury package includes all the optional items previously listed, as well as rear heaters, and power closing doors. The Ultra Luxury package provides SmartAccess, which allows you to start the car without a key. It also includes a modified suspension, power adjustable heated rear seats, and separate rear climate controls.

Performance & Handling

The 2006 Lexus LS430 is equipped with a 4.3-liter, V-8 engine that produces a powerful 278 horsepower with 312 lb-ft of torque. The engine is controlled by a six-speed automatic transmission with manual flip paddles for an extra little bit of control. The 2006 Lexus LS430 is a rear-drive vehicle.

The 2006 Lexus LS430 performs in almost all areas. It is extremely comfortable on long drives through the country and handles well in the city as well. The suspension is soft and gently absorbs potholes and pits without a complaint. Handling is very smooth, almost to the point of being a bit boring.

The 2006 Lexus LS430 comes with an extensive list of safety features, including front airbags, side airbags, knee bolsters, four-wheel anti-lock brakes with the BrakeAssist system, traction control, a VSC stability control system, and a tire pressure monitor. An optional Pre-Collision system is also available. This system uses a radar to detect when an obstacle is in front of your vehicle. If a collision is inevitable, the Pre-Collision system will engage the brake assist system, stiffen the suspension, and lock your seatbelts. All of these actions prevent serious injury when the collision occurs.

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety gave the 2006 Lexus LS430 their best score of ""good"" for front offset test. Unfortunately, the 2006 Lexus LS430 receives only a marginal grade for rear crash protection.
