2013 Lexus LS460 Review
Reviewed by Automotive on
The 2013 Lexus LS460 is the flagship sedan for the luxury carmaker, and it has been almost completely redesigned for the launch of the 2013 model lineup. According to Lexus, half of the pieces used to make the sedan are new, which equates to 3000 different parts of the car. The 2013 Lexus LS460 is the ultra sedan for the Lexus lineup, which means it includes some of the most advanced technology produced by the manufacturer, as well as some of the richest finishes.
The full-size luxury sedan is available in the base model, or the L extended version. Both seat up to five passengers, based on the seating configuration and come as rear or all-wheel drive. Additional packages available are the F Sport package for the base model and the Executive Class Seating package for the L model.
New For 2013
The 2013 Lexus LS460 has undergone a major redesign in preparation for its launch. Notable changes include:
- Complete exterior redesign featuring the new Lexus signature spindle-shaped front grille
- New sheet metal means that the overall shape and look of the sedan has been updated
- The interior has been updated so that it is more modern and contemporary feeling, and material quality has been improved
- New technologies have been incorporated into the sedan, including replacing the previous touchscreen with the new Remote Touch electronics interface
- Addition of the F Sport package for the base model
- The auto park system has been dropped
The exterior of the 2013 Lexus LS460 has undergone a major change to make the full-size sedan bolder and more stylish. Gone are the days when it would blend with the other sedans in the parking lot. The new signature, spindle-shaped front grille by Lexus gives the sedan a more aggressive and confident appearance from the front. Refreshed sheet metal and a reworked rear end work together to give the 2013 Lexus LS460 a completely new and unique look.
The 2013 Lexus LS460 comes in either the base with the regular length wheelbase or the L with the longer wheelbase. Both are equipped with standard 18-inch wheels, with 19-inch wheels as an option. The F Sport package for the base ups the ante, making the sedan look that much more aggressive and powerful. As well as including exterior design elements and a unique badge, the F Sport model has 19-inch wheels.
Interior & Cargo
Passengers within the 2013 Lexus LS460 enjoy riding in a comfortable and quiet cabin that balances style and functionality. Comfort is tantamount, and both front and rear passengers enjoy plenty of head and legroom in both wheelbase lengths for the sedan. The rear seat is a three-person bench, but upgrading to the Executive Class Seating package in the extended wheelbase changes this to two seats with a center console. A passenger power ottoman is also included with this package.
Standard equipment included for both models of the 2013 Lexus LS460 is a dual-zone climate control system, cruise control, keyless entry and ignition, power front seats with memory, leather upholstery, a 10-speaker audio system, a USB audio interface, and a tilt and telescoping steering wheel. The Remote Touch interface is made up of a 12-inch central display that includes a navigation system and Bluetooth connectivity for both audio and phone applications.
Standard safety equipment for all models of the 2013 Lexus LS460 includes anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat knee and side-impact airbags, side-curtain airbags for both rows of seats, a rearview camera, and the Lexus Safety Connect system. This system provides a collision warning system, an emergency assist button, roadside assistance, and a stolen vehicle locator. Additional safety options include a blind-spot warning system, adaptive cruise control, and rear-seat side-impact airbags.
The engine found within the 2013 Lexus LS460 is the same engine found in previous models, except it has been tweaked to provide a slight increase in horsepower. The 4.6-liter, V-8 engine now produces 386 horsepower and 360 lb-ft when the sedan is equipped with rear drive. For those with all-wheel drive, it provides 360 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque. The standard transmission for all models is an eight-speed automatic.
The suspension, powertrain, and chassis are the same in the 2013 model as with previous versions, but slight tweaks have meant that the performance and ride is better than before. While the full-size sedan is still ultra-quiet and provides an extremely smooth ride, the steering is sharper and feels more dynamic and responsive. The new Drive Mode system allows the driver to choose between different settings for the suspension, steering, and powertrain—providing a ride that varies in comfort and performance.
