Lexus LS460 Features

The Lexus LS460 has a 4.6-liter V-8 engine capable of producing 360 hp and 370 lb-ft of torque, which propels the vehicle from zero to 60 mph in approximately 5.5 seconds. It is built on a new platform that incorporates an advanced Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, a multilink suspension system for riding comfort, and an electronic power-steering system. The Lexus LS460 affords a higher level of convenience and comfort that is unmatched in its class. There are several comfort options for rear passengers, such as power-reclining seats with power leg rests. The rear seats also have a massage feature that provides great relief during long journeys.

The LS460 was the first luxury sedan to have ceiling air diffusers and infrared body temperature sensors. The LS460 L variant also featured a Shiatsu massaging Ottoman seat, a swivel tray table, and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. Besides the addition of interior luxury elements, the debut of the LS460 was also marked with a host of new automobile technology features such as radar cruise control, a brake-hold system, electronically controlled braking, and electric variable gear ratio power steering.

The LS460 had some enviable safety features that were not present in its predecessors. The new LS460 lineup had a lane departure warning system, an eye-tracking driver monitoring system, and a pre-collision system. The pre-collision system had the ability to identify pedestrians and vehicles in real time. The LS460 was also equipped with infrared night-vision protectors, stereo cameras, and millimeter wavelength radar that allowed for safe navigation in all weather conditions.

Lexus LS460 Evolution

The LS460 was introduced in two variants: the standard version known as the LS460, and the extended wheelbase version known as the LS460 L. Both versions featured the powerful 4.6-liter V-8 engine with 380 hp and 367 lb-ft of torque. The LS460 was the first luxury sedan equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The exteriors and interiors of the LS were revamped to make the car look different from its predecessors in the LS430 series. The interior was overhauled to include a number of luxury options such as a hard-disk drive-based GPS navigation system, a thin-film transistor display, a song library, a push-button start, and XM NavTraffic, a satellite traffic information system. Luxury components such as leather upholstery, a power moonroof, driver and passenger seats with lumbar adjustment, a premium sound system, seat heaters, and a trunk pass-through were all considered standard equipment in both versions of the Lexus LS460.

The subsequent versions of the Lexus LS460 have undergone minor changes to their exteriors and interiors. The version which debuted in late 2009 featured side mirror turn signals, redesigned front and rear fascias, and new wheel designs. This version of the Lexus LS460 is also equipped with current technology such as a self-repairing clear coat for the exterior paint and automatic high-beam lights. Lexus also provided an optional DVD entertainment system, and an additional chrome trim in this version of the LS460. A complete digital instrument panel is also offered in certain markets. The company is offering a performance-oriented variant called the Lexus LS460 Sport, which has fine-tuned air suspension with a higher damping force in the shock absorber, similar to a sport-tuned suspension. The Lexus LS460 Sport features paddle shifters, forged wheels, a unique interior, a body kit, and a Sport Direct Shift transmission with downshift rev-matching capacity.
