2001 Lexus LX470 Review

A versatile and capable luxury SUV that’s not cheap but genuinely delivers in terms of style, comfort, and performance.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2001 Lexus LX470 is a well-equipped, full-size luxury SUV that’s pretty top of the line when it comes to style, performance, amenities, and price. But while it certainly isn’t cheap, it really does deliver in just about all the areas expected. It's essentially a luxury version of the Toyota Land Cruiser, and it is to the Land Cruiser that it's indebted for its formidable off-road capability. However, despite its rugged capability, it is a luxury SUV that’s fully laden with amenities and extras, both optional and standard. The interior is stately with walnut wood and animal hides along with a cluster of gauges that’s lit up attractively. The steering wheel and shift knob now boast wood and leather trim and the whole thing is laid out ergonomically. Other features include heated seats, one-touch power windows, sunroof, tilt-away steering column, and an auto-dimming day/night mirror.

Performance & Handling

The Lexus LX470’s formidable 4.7-liter V-8 delivers engine power that is smooth and refined. But despite this, it could use a slight boost in horsepower to compensate for its formidable 5585-pound curb weight. While it may not deliver the kind of acceleration some models do, it's capable of towing up to 6500 pounds.

Among the standard safety features for the 2001 Lexus LX470 are anti-lock brakes, a skid-control system, and Brake Assist; a system that detects panic stops, and applies the brakes with maximum force immediately.
