What's New

The 2006 Lexus LX470 increases horsepower by 40 units over the previous year and can now reach up to 275 horsepower. Variable valve-timing is also included. A tire pressure monitor and an 11-speaker Mark Levinson audio system are now standard. The exterior styling also receives a small refresh with new LED headlamps and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The 2006 Lexus LX470 has the appearance of a truck with an attached bed cover. The frame is smooth and refined, and the front chrome grille is very attractive. This is a vehicle meant for exploring. On the underside, it’s equipped with skid plates to prevent damage while going over large obstacles. The LX470 is fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels.

The 2006 Lexus LX470 is available in six different colors—most variations on black or gray.

Standard features include intermittent wipers, privacy glass, rear defogger, intermittent rear wiper, sunroof with remote operation, step running boards for easy access, daytime running lights, and fog lamps.

The interior of the 2006 Lexus LX470 is very luxurious, featuring walnut trim that almost shines. Perforated leather seating and plush surfaces cover the interior. There isn’t a piece of hard plastic to be found.

There is plenty of legroom and headroom throughout the vehicle. The second row seating has a 60/40 split, while the third row has a 50/50 split. When the seats are folded down, the 2006 Lexus LX470 has 90.4 cubic feet of space, more than most competitors.

Standard interior features include power adjusting and heated front seats, automatic climate controls, a DVD-based navigation system, auto-dimming mirrors to prevent night blindness, folding center armrests, rear ventilation ducts, power accessories, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, steering wheel controls, and a rearview camera for parking. Also included this year as a standard feature is the Mark Levinson Audio System, which includes a six-CD player mounted into the dash, 11 speakers, and a subwoofer. Extra options include the Night View nighttime vision system for better visibility in the dark, as well as the Lexus Link Emergency system for accident management.

Performance & Handling

The 2006 Lexus LX470 has similar underpinning as the Toyota Land Cruiser, but it is much more powerful. A 4.7-liter, V-8 engine that produces 275 horsepower with 323 lb-ft of torque is under the hood. The vehicle is four-wheel drive. The engine is wed to a five-speed automatic transmission that has a low speed gearing for off-road driving. The new engine solves the old problem of feeling underpowered. The 2006 Lexus LX470 can now tow up to 5000 pounds when properly equipped.

The 2006 Lexus LX470 feels great both on road and off road. The double wishbone suspension gives the driver a lot of control when dealing with curves and bumpy surfaces. The Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system allows you to choose between four different suspension modes when driving. Each mode adjusts the shock absorbers according to the type of driving style. This is one vehicle that is adaptable in almost all driving situations.

The 2006 Lexus LX470 comes well-equipped for safety. Standard features include four-wheel anti-lock brakes, seat-mounted side airbags, side curtain airbags, and front and rear head airbags. The anti-lock braking system also has BrakeAssist and Electronic Brake Distribution to prevent accidents. Also included is a tire pressure monitoring system. Stability control, traction control, multi-adjustable headrests, rear center three-point seat belts, child seat anchors, an anti-theft alarm system, and front seatbelt pretensioners.

The 2006 Lexus LS 470 was not tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for front or side crashes.
