Lexus RX450H Features

The Lexus RX450H has a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that is also complemented by an electric drive. The car is offered in two versions: the front-wheel drive and the four-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive utilizes two motors: one motor is a starter and the other motor is for propulsion. The four-wheel drive is equipped with an additional third electric motor that powers the rear wheels. The total output of 295 hp is distributed and delivered through continuous variable transmission. The Lexus RX450H is equipped with the Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) feature with sequential shift and snow modes.

Lexus has tried to include every possible safety feature in the RX450H. The standard safety equipment include traction and stability control, anti-lock disc brakes, full-length side-curtain airbags, front and rear seat side air bags, dual-front knee bags, a stolen vehicle locator, a telematics service with automatic collision notification, and emergency assistance. The pre-collision system with adaptive cruise control is an optional feature, which determines if an accident is avoidable and automatically initializes brake assist and tightens the seat belts. The RX450H has received four out of five stars in government collision tests, a testament to its safety.

Lexus RX450H Evolution

The Lexus RX450H is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that propels the car from zero to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds. The front-wheel drive model delivers a fuel economy of 32/28 mpg city/highway, while the all-wheel drive model delivers a fuel economy of 30/28 mpg city/highway. The Lexus RX450H V-6 engine variant uses the Atkinson Cycle, which has a lower compression ratio and higher expansion ratio in the engine cylinders, adding to its efficiency. This cycle also utilizes less energy to create fuel air mixtures. The engine oil used in the Lexus RX450H V-6 engine is free-flowing and light, which reduces friction, therefore requiring less energy to power the pump.

The 3.5-liter V-6 Atkinson Cycle engine delivers 245 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. The engine fitted inside the RX450H is more fuel efficient than the conventional four-stroke Otto Cycle engine. The Lexus RX450H also incorporates a 288-volt nickel metal hydride battery pack that restores energy when the vehicle stops abruptly.

The exterior of the Lexus RX450H embodies the second generation of L-Finesse styling with sharp angular elements, fastback profile, articulated front fenders flowing into the doors, a low-set grille, and integrated rear fenders that meet together at the taut corners of the vehicle. The Lexus RX450H has a distinct appearance from its non-hybrid counterpart, which is mainly achieved with the help of the stylized grille and front bumper as well as blue-tinted head and taillights. The 19-inch wheel design is optional.
