1995 Lexus SC400 Review

A sporty, luxurious coupe.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 1995 Lexus SC400 is a sporty coupe designed for the luxury market. Luxury and performance are both wrapped nicely in this stylish vehicle. It is a good choice for a driver who would normally want a smaller, sporty two-seat vehicle but still wants the option of carrying more than one passenger. It also contains all the features that are expected from a luxury vehicle. It can get the driver comfortably to where ever he is going, albeit at the expense of being able to comfortably seat one less rear passenger compared to most luxury sedans.

The 1995 Lexus SC400 is significantly more powerful than the SC300, which is still impressive in its own right. The two models are very similar in most respects, only differing significantly in terms of engine size. The SC300 might be a better option for more price minded drivers, but the SC400 is the clear winner for drivers looking for power.

What's New

The 1995 Lexus SC400 receives some minor restyling this year and also comes with an additional cup holder.

While most of the competition of the 1995 Lexus SC400 favors larger sedan bodies, Lexus chose a smaller, sleeker coupe body instead. Somewhat unusual for a coupe, there is a fair amount of optional features that have a noticeable impact on the vehicle. Alloy wheels are a standard feature. A rear spoiler and a power moonroof are available as optional features.

The 1995 Lexus SC400 is a little smaller than some of its competitors, but still manages to comfortably seat four counting the driver. In terms of comfort, it mostly avoids the comfort issues typically associated with coupes. It is close to an average sedan in total length, so the interior space is closer to a sedan than the commonly compact coupe designs on the market. Drivers might have a little trouble squeezing three passengers in the rear seat, but two passengers are going to be comfortable thanks to adequate leg room. The interior is very luxurious, which is to be expected from a Lexus. Standard features include leather seats, power seats, cruise control, power steering, leather trim, air conditioning, automatic climate control, AM/FM radio, and a cassette player. Meanwhile, the optional features include heated seats, a cellular phone, and a Nakamichi audio system.

Performance & Handling

The 1995 Lexus SC400 is a quick, agile vehicle that handles better than most other vehicles on the road. It is even competitive compared to some sports vehicles. It has quick acceleration and a higher than normal top speed. The 4.0-liter, eight-cylinder engine gives it excellent acceleration and a high top speed. With an impressive 250 horsepower, it is impressive, even by the high standards of luxury market. The handling is just as well engineered, allowing it to handle easily in virtually all standard roadway conditions.

The standard safety features on the 1995 Lexus SC400 are dual front airbags and anti-lock brakes, which is typically what is expected from a luxury vehicle. Traction control can be added as an optional feature, which automatically regulates the brake and throttle to reduce sliding in less favorable conditions.
