The Lexus SC was a series of personal ultra-luxury coupes that debuted in 1991 as the SC400. The car had a 4.0-liter engine that claimed to have cost millions to develop due to extensive research and design. The introduction of the SC300 followed a year later sporting a 3.0-liter engine. These first two models continued until 2000. At the beginning of 2001, the next generation of the Lexus SC, the hardtop convertible SC430, went into production. A 4.3-liter V-8 engine capable of generating 288 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque powers the 2010 SC430. The energy produced propels to the rear wheels through the six-speed automatic transmission system with manual control. The Environmental Protection Agency has pegged the fuel economy of the vehicle at 16/23 mpg city/highway.
While the Lexus SC430 is no longer the phenomenon it once was, the retractable hardtop of the car is still a marvel unto itself. It has a complex mechanism that stacks three aluminum sections very neatly beneath the rear deck lid in 30 seconds. This enables the occupants of the car to enjoy the security and comfort of a coupe, and the pleasure of open-air motoring. Though the Lexus SC430 is old when compared to today’s luxury cars, it still offers good acceleration and a pleasant driving experience. The 2005 Lexus SC430 upper crust convertible did not have the Lexus Link assistance system. Apart from that, there were only a few minor changes from the earlier versions of the car. Standard equipment includes ABS, front side airbags, an anti-skid and traction-control system, leather and wood cabin trim, a tire-pressure monitor, 18-inch wheels, and the premium Mark Levinson music system that carried over to the 2010 model.
