The 2011 Lincoln MKX is a fancy crossover SUV. Reviewers criticized earlier models of the Lincoln MKX for hiding lackluster mechanics behind a fancy body and accessories. The 2011 Lincoln MKX features a dramatic redesign, boasting some new exterior styling and new mechanics.
The Range
Body styles: SUV
Models: MKX
Engine: 3.7-liter V-6
What's New
The first noticeable change to the 2011 MKX is the new “winged” grille that sets it apart from the competition, as well as a smoothly curved front bumper, new taillights, and other small changes. The cabin offers better materials and new accents. The seats have a new, comfortable design with improved materials as well. The overhauled MyLincoln Touch navigation system sorts out some of the problems of the previous generation. The touchscreen has more in common with current touchpad computers.
Exterior
As mentioned earlier, the Lincoln MKX does not shirk on the luxury items. Standard equipment includes big, 18-inch alloy wheels and cap-less fuel filler to prevent spillage.
Interior
The 2011 Lincoln MKX also includes new standard accessories inside the vehicle. It offers keyless ignition and entry, a touch screen navigation system, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, ventilated front seats, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, a power lift gate, and driver’s memory settings—bringing it to the same level as other Lincolns, as well as other SUVs in its class. It also includes a MyKey system that allows the driver to set a maximum top speed for the vehicle, as well as a volume limit on the radio. Speaking of audio equipment, the MKX features a 10-disc CD changer, satellite radio, a SD card reader, and audio jacks for your personal music player. With this the Lincoln MKX teeters on the side of luxurious. A power tailgate, remote-start engine, power and heated front, leather upholstery, and a rear park assist merely scratch the surface of what the Lincoln MKX has to offer.
Performance & Handling
Ford upgraded the MKX’s engine for the 2011 model year as well. A 3.7-liter V-6 engine produces an impressive 305 horsepower, forty more than previous engines found in the Lincoln MKX. New brakes resolve the major problems found on previous generations. The MKX accelerates quickly, mainly due to its new engine. The transmission sometimes refuses to downshift properly when traveling at high speeds. The model offers sporty handling, and the suspension hugs the road nicely. The ride is comfortable and confident, making the MKX an altogether enjoyable ride.
Safety
The 2011 MKX fairs well on safety. The MKX comes equipped with anti-lock brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety never tested the 2011 model, but the 2010 MKX received a ""Good"" rating for frontal collisions and ""Acceptable"" for turnovers. With the new designs, the 2011 surely performs better.
