The 2006 Lincoln Zephyr is a brand new midsize luxury sedan that boasts appealing interior and exterior features combined with a modern, yet traditional elegance. The name Zephyr comes from a line of pre-World War II vehicles previously made by Lincoln. Lincoln attracts younger buyers by offering this midsize sedan at the lowest price of any Lincoln vehicle. It is also the smallest vehicle Lincoln has ever offered, but the car still sports a contemporary and well-appointed design. The exterior manages to stand out while still sporting the traditional Lincoln waterfall grille. The 2006 Lincoln Zephyr contains a 221-horsepower V-6 engine and comes in only one trim.

The 2006 Lincoln Zephyr is new to the Lincoln lineup. The brand markets it as a luxurious version of the Ford Fusion or Mercury Milan.
The 2006 Lincoln Zephyr measures longer and wider than the comparable Mazda 6, giving it a roomier, smoother, and more comfortable ride. It boasts the traditional Lincoln waterfall grille, standard 17-inch alloy wheels, wing-shaped LED taillights, and a dual chrome exhaust. It comes in any of eight exterior colors choices. The exterior measures 72.2 inches wide, 55.9 inches high, and 190.5 inches long.
With some exceptions, the Zephyr’s exterior mimics the Ford Fusion’s, but the interior stays unique to Lincoln. Distinctive features include the rectangular-shaped metallic frames in the dash and door panel, which come with a choice of real maple or ebony inserts. They contrast with chrome gauges, vents, and a metallic center stack where the climate controls and radio sit.
Standard interior features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel with real wood grips and nickel-plated climate, audio, and cruise control buttons. The car also features one-push simultaneous lowering of all windows. Other standard features include leather seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker audio system with an in-dash CD changer and an MP3 player, a split-folding rear seat, a 10-way adjustable front seat with memory, an analog clock, power accessories, cruise control, and keyless entry. LED lighting illuminates instrumentation and controls, providing an impressive nighttime display.
Optional features include a power moonroof, a navigation system, HID headlights, ventilated seats, and an upgraded audio system with a 600-watt amplifier and 14 speakers.
Performance & Handling
The 2006 Lincoln Zephyr provides a quiet highway ride and capable handling. It features responsive steering and a comfortable ride over rough surfaces. The transmission shifts smoothly. Overall, the car performs satisfactorily.
The 2006 Lincoln Zephyr comes loaded with standard safety features such as four-wheel drive, an ABS, traction control, head airbags, front- and rear-seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags. The Zephyr’s B-pillars, located between the front and rear doors, provide another safety feature. They are reinforced to move side-impact crash energy down and away from passengers, while reinforcing the roof for rollover crush protection—a safety standard that doesn’t take effect until 2009. Other safety features include a remote anti-theft alarm, an engine immobilizer, fog lights, auto delay-off headlights, dusk-sensing headlights, electronic brake distribution, and an emergency interior trunk release.
The Zephyr receives four out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for frontal impact crash tests. It earns a perfect five-star rating for front side-impact crashes and a four-star rating for rear side impact.
