Mazda B-3000 Origins
The B-3000 is part of Mazda’s B-Series, and it sold well for a number of years. Truck models belonging to the B-Series have names that designate engine displacement. Other models belonging to the B-Series include the B-2300 and the B-4000. The B-3000 comes equipped with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine, while the B-2300 contains a 2.3-liter V-6. The B-4000 houses a more muscular 4.0-liter SOHC V-6, which is notably the same engine found under the hood of the massive Ford Explorer. Ultimately Mazda opted to discontinue the B-3000 in 2007. The B-Series itself only lasted another two years before it too terminated in 2009.About the Mazda B-3000
The Mazda B-3000 is a compact pickup truck, essentially offered as a trim level of the popular and long-running Mazda B-Series. Like all pickup truck models in the B-Series, the B-3000 keeps close relations with the Ford Ranger, but boasts many of its own styling cues.
Significantly, the Mazda B-3000 marks the first import brand pickup truck to offer the option of a four-door cab. That model is known as the Cab Plus 4. During its run of production, Mazda made the B-3000 available as both a two-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicle. While many truck models seem to have increased in size over the years, the B-3000 remains a truly compact pickup truck through its near decade long run of production. Like the B-2300, the B-3000 is better suited for cargo hauling and light towing. Drivers looking for a vehicle to perform truly heavy-duty jobs will probably have better luck with the more substantial B-4000 model.Mazda B-3000 Features
2009 was the final year that Mazda produced its compact B-Series of pickup trucks. However the B-3000, which is essentially a trim level of the B-Series, discontinued two years earlier, in 2007. Numbers in the B-Series indicate engine displacement; hence the B-3000 comes equipped with a 3.0-liter V-6 engine that generates 148 horsepower and produces 180 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed manual transmission comes standard on the 2007 B-3000. However, the model also offers the option of a five-speed automatic. Tow ratings for the B-3000 remain less than 3,000 pounds.
Standard safety features for the 2007 B-3000 include anti-lock brakes, and the model earns five out of five stars for driver safety in frontal impact crashes. Front passenger safety ratings drop to four out of five stars. Notably, many modern safety features such as stability control, as well as side and side curtain airbags, are not available for the 2007 B-3000.
From an interior point of view, the 2007 B-Series in general can be regarded as a model near the end of its line. The truck’s cabin has a dated feel, and competing models offer features such as leather upholstery and premium sound systems; these cannot be found on the B-3000. The model offers little legroom, and the seats sit flat and low, which leads to driver and passenger discomfort on longer drives.
Reviews indicate that the B-3000’s 3.0-liter V-6 is slightly underpowered, and acceleration suffers as a result. However, one area where the compact pickup excels is in handling. The B-3000’s compact size leads to good maneuverability. However, by 2007, the B-3000’s basic platform and underpinnings had become somewhat dated, which results in a bit of a rough ride. Despite this, the 2007 B-3000 performs decently in off-road situations, and it’s perhaps somewhat lamentable that Mazda never offered the option of an off-road package.Mazda B-3000 Evolution
2005 saw the introduction of several new features to the B-3000 Dual Sport and SE models. These features include cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheels, bed liners, and power mirrors.
In 2004, the Mazda B-3000’s interior received a slight refresh, adding a new steering wheel, revised cloth upholstery, and a redesigned center stack.
B-3000 models from 2001 feature a 3.0-liter V-6 that generates 150 horsepower and produces185 lb-ft of torque. Four-wheel drive comes as an option on this B-3000 model. Several style innovations from 2001 include restyled grilles, new front and rear lights, and 16-inch alloy wheels on four-wheel drive models.
