The 1997 Mazda B4000 shares a kinship with the Ford Ranger thanks to Mazda’s partnership with Ford. Both vehicles are manufactured at the same New Jersey plant and are derived from the same basic design. Both share almost the same exact powertrain and four-wheel drive setup, but the pricing structure and some details differentiate the two vehicles. It may actually give the buyer more bang for their buck than the Ranger. This is a great pickup truck, whether it is needed for a daily commute or to serve as a true workhorse.
The 1997 Mazda B4000 is available with two cab configurations in two trims: the base and the sporty SE. The SE has a wider range of available options. Meanwhile, it's available as either a two- or four-wheel drive. Anyone who enjoys a pickup truck with some muscle will love the four-liter V-6 engine with 160 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque. It comes standard with five-speed manual transmission with the option of a five-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, it can tow up to 5900 pounds with an automatic transmission.

The 1997 Mazda B-Series has trimmed down its lineup and only the B2300 and B4000 models remain. It's now only available in two trim levels: the base and SE. The luxury LE is discontinued due to sluggish sales. Also, new in 1997 is an optional five-speed automatic transmission that can be matched with the V-6 engine.
The 1997 Mazda B4000 combines good looks with rugged construction. The Cab Plus models ride a wheelbase of 125.2 inches, while the Regular Cab has a 108.2-inch wheelbase. The Regular Cab is also shorter in overall length at 184.5 inches in comparison to the Cab Plus’ 202.7 inches, and each trim has a width of 69.4 inches. The two-wheel-drive model is a bit shorter in height at 64.1 inches, while the four-wheel-drive trucks are 67.5 inches. The four-wheel-drive SE has a ground clearance of 9.1 inches, whereas the two-wheel-drive SE has a ground clearance of 6.6 inches and ground clearance on the base models are 8.5 inches. The two-wheel-drive model comes standard with 14-inch tires, while the four-wheel-drive models have standard 15-inch tires. It also has recirculating ball steering, independent front suspension, and live axle rear suspension.
The 1997 Mazda B4000 can seat up to four or five people, with the exception of the base model regular cab, which can only accommodate three. With legroom being very accommodating even in the backseat, the interior is pretty basic but full of practicality. The gauges and climate control are all logically placed and within sight and reach. Standard features are scarce; however, some optional features can spruce up the overall package, which can include air-conditioning, sport seats, a premium audio system with compact disc changer, and power doors, locks, and mirrors.
