2005 Mazda MAZDA3 Review

The 2005 Mazda MAZDA3 is a well-rounded vehicle. It comes with few new features since it debuted a year before. The exterior and interior features are plentiful, while the power on this vehicle is average, and performance is smooth. The safety is average, and the fuel economy is high. The MAZDA3 is a satisfying car to own and drive.

This model comes with minor changes for this year. The four-door i model has a new 15-inch wheel cover design. Sirius Satellite Radio is now available on all models as well.
The 2005 MAZDA3 comes in eight colors, and it also comes with body color front and rear bumpers with four integrated rear bumper reflectors, body-color protective side moldings, dual body-color manual remote folding mirrors, and body-color door handles. The vehicle comes with black roof molding, black urethane front grille insert and trim, clear-lens halogen headlights with silver-color headlight bezels, white-lens side turn signals, green tinted glass, and fixed intermittent windshield wipers. The 15-inch steel wheels include full wheel covers and all-season tires for any month of the year. The MAZDA3 comes with a temporary spare tire. The s model upgrades to body-color sport-type grille insert and trim, fog lights, and clear-lens taillights with silver color bezels. The tires are also improved to 16-inch alloy wheels.
The special edition model receives a body-color sport-type front and rear bumper, side sill extension, a sport type grille, an auto on and off for the halogen headlights, fog lights, clear-lens taillights, and rain sensing front windshield wipers. The wheels are upgraded to 17-inch alloy wheels with a high-gloss finish. The s model on the wagon body style includes lower door moldings and a fixed intermittent rear window wiper as well as the previously mentioned equipment of the s model for the sedan body. The special edition model for the wagon body style includes a body-color rear roof-mounted spoiler and the previously mentioned standard equipment for the special edition model. Optional upgrades include xenon high-intensity discharge headlights for the s model and 17-inch wheels with sill extensions. All models have an optional moonroof.
The 2005 MAZDA3 comes with many interior features. It comes with reclining, sport style front bucket seats; lockable, fold down rear seats; center console; full carpeting; carpet floor mats; urethane scuff plate; driver-side foot rest; three-spoke, urethane, tilt telescopic steering wheel with audio controls; and engine immobilizer anti-theft system. Other interior features include headlights-on and key-in ignition warning chimes, red nighttime illuminated gauges and controls, remote releases for the fuel door, trunk and hood, rear compartment heater ducts, rear window defogger, locking glove box, front cigarette lighter and ashtray, power outlet, and molded cloth door trim. There is also a day and night rearview mirror, center windshield sunshade, dome light, dual vinyl-covered visors, passenger assist grips, coat hooks, front map lights, and a cargo area light. The four speaker audio system is a satellite radio compatible AM/FM/CD player stereo with automatic level control, a digital clock, and a roof-mounted antenna. The optional upgrades on the i model are air-conditioning, power windows, mirrors, door locks, cruise control, remote entry, an upgraded driver’s seat, upgraded audio, and bigger wheels. The six disc CD changer is also available as an option and comes with the moonroof upgrade. Sirius Satellite Radio can be installed in any MAZDA3 model.
The s model has height adjustment and lumbar support for the driver, cruise controls for the steering wheel, electroluminescent gauges, power windows and door locks, remote keyless illuminated entry, cruise control, air-conditioning, molded cloth headliner, leather-wrapped shift knob, and delayed courtesy lights. The audio system is upgraded with two speakers. The optional package for the 3s include leather upholstery, tire pressure monitoring system, and navigation system.
The special edition model upgrades to leather-trimmed, heated front bucket seats, black gloss steering wheel trim inserts, black gloss instrument panel trim insert, and pollen filter for the air-conditioning. All the upgrades of the s model are also included in the special edition model. The audio system is upgraded with a six-disc CD changer and a Bose audio system with a Bose 5000 series amp, equalizer, digital signal processing, six door speakers, and a subwoofer.
Performance & Handling
The 2005 MAZDA3 comes with either a two-liter, inline four-cylinder engine or a 2.3-liter, inline four-cylinder engine. The two-liter engine is rated at 148 horsepower, which provides for 135 lb-ft of torque. The 2.3-liter engine is rated at 160 horsepower, which provides for 150 lb-ft of torque. The transmission types are four-speed automatic with overdrive or a five-speed manual with overdrive. This car is front-wheel drive and includes an independent MacPherson front strut suspension and an independent E-type multi-link rear suspension with shock absorbers. The front and rear have stabilizer bars and coil springs. The steering is power rack and pinion with variable assistance. The front brakes are power ventilated, and the rear are solid disc brakes.
The 2005 MAZDA3 earned four out of five stars in driver and passenger front impact ratings as well as its rollover rating. It earned three stars in driver and passenger side impact ratings. The vehicle includes driver and front passenger advanced airbag Supplemental Restraint System, adjustable front safety-belt anchors, front safety belt pre-tensioners with force limiters, child safety rear door locks, and rear seat child safety LATCH system. Other safety features include a collapsible steering column, front and rear side impact door beams, trunk entrapment release system, five mph bumpers, and triple H steel reinforced body construction. An optional safety package comes with side-impact airbags for the front seats, side air curtains for head protection and anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution.
