Interior

The interior of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3 looks more upscale than the typical economy car. Built with quality materials, the components fit together well. Gauges sit within reach and look easy to read. The rear seat may not provide enough legroom for taller adults. Cargo capacity totals 11.5 cubic feet in the sedan’s trunk; the hatchback features 17 cubic feet behind the rear seat. With the seat is folded down cargo space expands to 31 cubic feet.

Interior equipment on the base model MAZDA3 includes cloth upholstery, sport front seats, a split-folding rear seatback, rear ventilation ducts, a front console with storage, electric speed-proportional power steering, a 12V power outlet, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with audio control functions, a tachometer, tire pressure monitoring, and an AM/FM/CD audio system with four speakers.

Performance & Handling

This engine generates 148 hp and 135 lb-ft of torque. All s vehicles (s Sport, s Touring, and s Grand Touring models) come equipped with a 2.3-liter, 156-hp, four-cylinder engine and either a five-speed manual, or five-speed shiftable automatic transmission. The 2.3-liter engine produces 150 lb-ft of torque. Both use variable valve timing and offer performance that surpasses most economy vehicles.

Handling improves in the s trim level with the addition of stability control and traction control. The suspension feels firm, and the cars offer excellent steering and braking. Overall, the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3 offers performance and handling that reaches far above that found in most cars in its class.
