No, I would not recommend this
Last week for Memorial Weekend I rented a 2012 Mazda 3 from Hertz at John Wayne Airport (I had a choice of Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra or the Mazda) but I figured what the heck--I've owned 2 Mazda Miatas and loved them, plus the car I learned to drive on was an old Mazda 323. So the Mazda 3 it was.
Well guess what, these new Mazdas are nothing like what I grew up with.. Mazdas were always sport, ergonomic and generally good in my experience. Not this one. Everything about the car sucked or felt cheap IMO. Here is my rant:
The steering wheel was so thin it felt like I was driving a 40 year old classic car... The buttons for the windows were in the wrong place and hard to find... Plus they weren't lit. The dome light buttons were in the worst place possible and un-intuitive. The trunk is hard to shut and feels wierd. The backseat is cramped for this class of car. The front seat has mediocre lumbar support (actually it's not bad, but it's not great either). The paint on the car is cheap and scratches and dents easily. The sound system is boomy and bassy, but very poor in quality unless you are totally cranking it up. The 4-cylinder engine power was adequate, but boring and not sporty or peppy at all. A manual transmission would be a lot better in this car...
That's it, end rant. For the money and the class, I bet the Toyota Corolla is a much better car, as much as I despise the beige and boring image of Toyotas. Heck even a Nissan Sentra is probably a better car. An American Chevy Cruze is 1000% better as well.
The only good thing I can say about this car is that it had an AUX iphone jack (but which car doesn't these days?)
