What's New

Front and side curtain airbags come standard on all 2007 Mazda MAZDA6 models. The Sport trim level becomes the entry-level model.

Exterior

The 2007 Mazda MAZDA6 sits on a 105.3-inch wheelbase, and the sedan model measures 186.8 inches long. Standard equipment for the base Sport models (i or s) includes 16-inch steel wheels, variable intermittent wipers, a rear defogger, power door locks, power windows, and power mirrors. The Sport Special Value (VE) model (i or s) upgrades to 17-inch alloy wheels. Furthermore, the i and s Touring models add a power glass sunroof, while the Grand Touring models feature fog lights and xenon HID headlights.

Interior

The interior of the 2007 Mazda MAZDA6 looks well-built and attractive. Gauges are well-placed and easy to read. The optional navigation system (available on the Grand Touring trim level) features an LCD display screen. Legroom seems sufficient in all seats except in the rear center location. Maximum cargo capacity in the sedan totals 15.2 cubic feet; the hatchback offers 59 cubic feet with the rear seat folded down. The wagon features 61 cubic feet with the seat folded down.

Interior features for the base Sport models include a driver’s seat with height adjustment, cloth upholstery, bucket front seats, a split-folding rear seatback, rear ventilation ducts, cruise control, a front console with storage, speed-proportional power steering, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with audio and cruise control functions, a 12V power outlet, interior air filtration, air-conditioning, a tachometer, external temperature display, and an AM/FM/CD audio system with six speakers.

The Sport Special Value (VE) models offer additional standard equipment, such as an eight-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support and height adjustment, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise control functions, leather interior trim, and an AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers.

The Touring trim level models feature eight-way power heated driver and passenger seats with lumbar support and height adjustment, leather upholstery, power heated mirrors, and an AM/FM/six-CD/MP3 audio system with six speakers.

Standard equipment that remains exclusive to the Grand Touring models includes a universal remote transmitter, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and a 200-watt Bose premium audio system with an AM/FM stereo, a six-disc CD changer, MP3 compatibility, a subwoofer, and seven speakers.

Optional equipment includes satellite radio, remote start, and a navigation system with voice activation and an LCD display screen (for the Grand Touring trim level).

Performance & Handling

The i models come equipped with a 2.3-liter, 156-hp, four-cylinder engine and either a five-speed manual or five-speed shiftable automatic transmission; the s models employ a three-liter, 212-hp V-6 that pairs with a five-speed manual or a six-speed shiftable automatic. With all the models, the ride seems impressive on curves, with responsive power steering and handling. The ride stays quiet, and four-wheel disc brakes handle stops well.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the 2007 Mazda MAZDA6 includes traction control, anti-lock disc brakes, front seat-mounted side airbags and full side curtain airbags. In government crash testing, the MAZDA6 earns a perfect five stars for frontal-impact testing.

Base (Sport) models include sport double wishbone front and multi-link rear independent suspensions, front and rear stabilizer bars, four-wheel ABS, electronic brake force distribution, ventilated front disc and solid rear disc brakes as well. The Grand Touring model adds a remote anti-theft alarm system.
