2013 Mazda MAZDASPEED3 Review

Reviewed by Automotive on

Vehicle Overview

The 2013 Mazda3 and Mazdaspeed3 come barreling into the 2013 model year with minimal changes and the same expectations. The 2013 Mazda3 sedan comes in an i SV, i Sport, i Touring, i Touring, i Grand Touring, and an s Grand Touring model. The 2013 Mazda3 hatchback is available in an i Touring, i Grand Touring, and an s Grand Touring model. As for the 2013 Mazdaspeed3, that's only available as a Touring model. The 2013 Mazda3's 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is rated at 148 horsepower and mated to a five-speed manual transmission. A five-speed automatic transmission is available, too. The 2013 Mazdaspeed3 relies on a 2.3-liter turbocharged engine, which is good for 263 horsepower, and mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The EPA estimates that the 2013 Mazda3 is good for 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. The 2013 Mazdaspeed3 can achieve 18 mpg city and 25 mpg on the highway.

And then there's that smile sitting on the front of the 2013 Mazda3 and MazdaSpeed3. It's a very polarizing feature, but if you're not a fan of it, you're in luck, as it's bowing out with the 2014 model. If you want a stiff, sporty ride with aggressive acceleration, then the 2013 MazdaSpeed3 is the sibling you should side with. If you're more into comfort and fuel economy, then the 2013 Mazda3 is more for you, but either way, it's tough to lose.

New for 2013

For 2013, the Mazda3 welcomes some more features, a bigger infotainment screen, and a USB input. As for the Mazdaspeed3, not much has changed for 2013, but you can still expect razor-sharp handling for both models, and a hardy dose of acceleration with the rowdy variant.
