2013 Mazda Miata Review

Reviewed by Automotive on

Vehicle Overview

Perhaps the best known model in Mazda's current lineup is the MX-5 Miata. The latest variation of the MX-5 Miata once again comes with a 2.0-liter inline-4 cylinder engine, rated at 167 horsepower, and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. If you opt for the six-speed auto gearbox, horsepower takes a dip down to 158 horsepower, which is an option on all three models. Speaking of available models, the 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata comes in the form of a Sport, Club, and Grand Touring model. When equipped with the manual gearbox, the EPA estimates the 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata achieves 21 mpg city and 28 mpg on the highway. The automatic gearbox score the same fuel figures but goes down to 23 mpg combined, as opposed to 24 mpg combined with the manual.

Just like that, though, rises a challenger(s) from the mist beyond. The Mazda Miata has enjoyed a long run of being in a class of its own but now the Toyobaru twins will have something to say about that. So will Ford with its upcoming subcompact Fiesta ST. Before, if you wanted a fun and affordable two-seater, the Mazda Miata was really your only option. Now, you can look at the Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, or even the Ford Fiesta ST. However, it can be argued that all of this new competition still doesn't have anything on the Miata. We at believe all of the aforementioned vehicles are stout in their own right, but the Miata is still at the top of the heap.

New for 2013

For 2013, the Mazda MX-5 Miata goes under the knife to get the updated styling that other models in the Japanese automaker's portfolio sport. Besides a styling brush-up, the Touring trim has been dropped in favor of a new Club model.
