Buyer's Guide

Mercedes-Benz

With lineage tracing to the late 1800s, Mercedes-Benz is one of the world's oldest luxury automakers. Its extensive lineup includes sedans, SUVs, and coupes, most of which emphasize comfort and technology. AMG vehicles add performance, while Maybach models feature luxuries befitting of royalty. Future all-electric Mercedes cars will be part of the EQ sub-brand.

Least Expensive: At about $33,000, the A220 sedan is the least-expensive Mercedes-Benz on sale. The cheapest Mercedes-Benz SUV is the GLA250, which starts at around $35,000.

Most Expensive: With a starting price above $200,000 the ultra-luxurious S 650 Maybach is the most expensive Mercedes Benz. The G 63 AMG, which commands about $157,000, is the most expensive Mercedes SUV. Then there's the sold-out Mercedes-AMG One, a Formula One-inspired hypercar that cost nearly $3 million.

Most Fun to Drive: AMG transforms everyday Mercedes models into high-performance machines. In recent years AMG has developed its own bespoke vehicles, like the AMG GT and GT 4-Door. Anything wearing an AMG badge is built for fun.

Best Fuel Economy: Mercedes' EQ sub-brand focuses on all-electric vehicles, and its first effort is the EQC 400. A zero-tailpipe-emissions crossover, the EQC400 can cover about 200 miles on a charge. Among gas-powered cars the CLA250 is the most fuel-efficient Mercedes, scoring a 25/35 mpg city/highway rating.
