The 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class is available in various two-door luxury coupe and convertible models. Buyers have the choice of getting a flawless V-6 or high-performance V-8 engine. CLK-Class models have a five- and seven-speed automatic transmission, which features Mercedes’ patented Touch Shift to enable manual shifting of gears. Drivers will enjoy its smooth acceleration, super stable handling, and a host of convenience features that make this a fun vehicle to drive. Passengers ride in comfort and style on heated leather seats and will feel be protected by the hefty package of safety features.

The Range

Body Styles: coupe, convertible
Engines: 3.2-liter V-6, 5.0-liter V-8, 5.4-liter V-8

What's New

The 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class has an upgraded sound system, a new DVD-based navigation system, and a lighting package featuring fog lights that illuminate along with the turn signals. The five-speed automatic transmission in the CLK500 has been replaced with a seven-speed unit that has steering wheel shift controls. Ventilated front seats have been added as a luxury option.

The 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK coupe and convertible are both beautiful cars. The coupe is all around sweet. The front features a chrome grille with the Mercedes logo in the center, sided by uniquely-shaped headlights. Its sides have a sleek yet simple design that speaks class. Features include a heated power sunroof, five-spoke 17-inch wheels, and tinted glass on the cabin. The convertible is just as nice. Most notable is the blazing speed with which the electric soft top roof goes up and down. In addition, wind noise is minimized with the top down, so conversation is easily heard. Otherwise, the design is attractive and sporty-looking.

All 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLKs have a long list of features that make the interior truly luxurious. The trim of the interior is hand-polished burl walnut and is complimented by beautiful leather upholstery. In the front, there are 10-way adjustable heated power seats with adjustable front headrests. In the middle of the front seats is a height-adjustable armrest with dual enclosed storage compartments. The gauges and controls are logically arranged in the dash. In the rear, there are individually contoured heated seats with 60/40 split folding rear seatbacks and height-adjustable headrests. A folding armrest with slide-out cup holders sits in the center. Passengers get to listen to tunes in a digital surround sound system, which includes 12 speakers, an amplifier, and digital dynamic volume control.

Performance & Handling

The 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class has three different engine choices, depending on the model. The CLK320 coupe is packed with a 3.2-liter, V-6 engine that spits out 215 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. The CLK500 has a five-liter, V-8 engine that pumps out 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. The CLK55 AMG gets a 5.4-liter, V-8 engine that cranks out 362 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. The handling on all models of the CLK-Class is superb, thanks to a solid multi-link independent front and rear suspension with stabilizer bar and coil springs. Highway driving is smooth. Steering is easy and natural, and there is no body-roll from hard cornering. Passengers will enjoy a stable ride going over bumps. On slippery road conditions, stability and traction control ensure a safe trip.

The 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class models are equipped with anti-lock brakes with brake force distribution on all four wheels. Other safety features include side-impact beams, automatic rollover bars, and front and rear crumple zones. In the front, there are driver and passenger front-impact airbags and side-impact airbags. In the rear, there are side-impact airbags on both sides. There are also overhead airbags that serve to protect passengers in the event of a rollover or side collision. Seatbelt pretensioners are installed to restrain passengers during a crash. All CLK-Class models have Mercedes’ Electronic Stability Program stability system that automatically senses when the handling limits of the vehicle have been exceeded and then applies the brakes in the order to assist the driver in keeping the vehicle under control.
