The 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is sporty and professional-looking and the first Mercedes to implement components made from aluminum in the body. Looking at the sedan models from the front, the chrome grille and unique four-headlight setup stands out. At the front of the hood, a Mercedes hood ornament is attached. The sides and rear end have a cool, crisp design that speaks class. A glass remote sunroof is fitted into the roof. The E350 sits on 16-inch wheels, the E550 sits on 17-inch wheels, and the E63 AMG has 18-inch wheels.

The 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models have luxurious interiors. There is beautifully-crafted wood trim with splashes of flashy chrome. There is full carpeting and gorgeous leather upholstery. In the front, there are nine-way adjustable bucket power seats, ensuring a perfect fit and maximum comfort. The center console has enclosed storage and dual cup holders. In the rear, passengers ride in style. All three rear seats are height adjustable. There is a folding rear armrest with enclosed storage and dual cup holders. The dash has a nice setup with gauges arranged logically and the COMAND management/data system is displayed on a 10-inch LCD screen. There is a host of luxury features, which include a stereo system with a CD player, nine speakers, a four-channel amplifier, and automatic speed-sensitive volume adjustment, a climate-control system that can be adjusted by both front and rear passengers, and a SmartKey system.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is equipped with great engines. The E350 comes with a 3.2-liter, V-6 engine that spits out 302 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. The E350 goes from zero to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. The E550 is powered by a five-liter, V-8 engine that pumps out 402 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. The E550 goes from zero to 60 mph in about five seconds. The E63 AMG packs the biggest engine with a twin-turbo, 5.5-liter V-8 that cranks out up to 550 horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque. The E63 AMG rockets from zero to 60 mph in less than five seconds. Also, a diesel engine is available in the E320 that is comparable to the engine in the E350. All of these engines provide are quiet, run smoothly, and have enough power to pass other vehicles easily. All Mercedes-Benz E-Class models are built with an independent multi-link front and rear suspension with stabilizer bar and air springs. In addition, there is automatic front and rear suspension leveling. This setup provides exceptional handling and a stable ride. The E-Class maneuvers smoothly around turns and steers adequately with a good feel.

The 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class comes equipped with anti-lock brakes on all four wheels, a brake assist system, front and rear side impact airbags, head-protecting curtain side airbags, Mercedes’ TeleAid assistance system, and a Rear Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) system in the rear. There are three-point driver and passenger seat belts with height adjustment and an emergency tensioning retractor. Backseat passengers have three-point seatbelts with outboard automatic adjustment. All E-Class models have an illuminated emergency trunk release. The NHTSA gives the 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a four star crash test rating for driver and passenger front impact and a five star rating for driver and passenger side impact. Also, a five-star rating is given for rollover resistance.
