The 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is best described as a high-performance, sleek, powerful bullet-on-wheels. It is an attractive vehicle by any standards, bearing its convertible roadster body with much grace. Adding to its stylish design is the 5.5-liter, V-8 engine, emitting 382 horsepower (hp) at just under 3000 rpm, moving from zero to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. These features combine to produce a vehicle that has any car-lover’s heart racing.

Exterior

The exterior of the 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class paints a good picture of both class and style. It comes with 71.5 inches of width, 51 inches of height, 178.5 inches of length, 10.2 cubic feet of cargo room, and sits on a 100.8-inch wheelbase fitted with performance tires on 18-inch alloy wheels. Other standard exterior features include a power-driven retractable hardtop, which is quite an eye-catcher when showing off, a rear window defogger, rain-sensing wipers, and external mirrors with signal.

Interior

The two-door, two-seater 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class features 37.7 inches of headroom, 56.9 inches of hip room, 42.9 inches of legroom, and 54 inches of shoulder room. It is fitted with heated, 12-way power, height-adjustable passenger and driver bucket seats covered in leather, both of which have power-adjustable back support settings. The seats come with memory settings for three drivers, which include the steering wheel position. Other power features include the seats, windows, door locks, and exterior mirrors with the passenger-side rear view mirror, which is fitted with reverse tilt to enable safer reversing. The speed-proportional power steering wheel has cruise control and audio controls mounted on it. Air-conditioning is standard on all the trims, as is the dual zone climate control for the driver and front passenger.

The 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class comes with plenty of leather work in the interior to enhance the luxury appeal, including leather on the steering wheel, the gear shift handle, on the doors, on the seats, and on the console. It comes with an electro-chromatic interior rear view mirror to further top up the luxury, along with reading lights and illuminating vanity mirrors for the front passenger and driver. The driver has several dashboard warnings, including a low fuel level warning and a low tire pressure warning. For entertainment, it is fitted with a total of eight speakers and one sub-woofer to support the surround sound system on the AM/FM Sirius satellite radio with a stereo CD player. It is wired for hands-free telephone use and has wireless data Bluetooth capabilities.

Performance & Handling

The 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL550 has a base 5.5-liter, V-8 engine, which produces 382 hp at 6000 rpm and spits out 391 lb-ft of torque at 2800 rpm, with double overhead cam (DOHC) and 32 valves. It has rear-wheel drive with a seven-speed shift-automatic transmission. The SL55 AMG Roadster comes fitted with a 5.4-liter, V-8 engine emitting 510 hp at 6100 rpm, and is a five-speed automatic overdrive transmission. The SL600 is a 5.5-liter, V-12 engine emitting 510 hp at 5000 rpm paired with a five-speed automatic overdrive transmission. The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class SL65 AMG comes with a 6.0-liter, V-12 engine, spewing 604 hp at 4800 rpm, and is a five-speed automatic overdrive transmission.

Safety

For impact safety, the 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class comes fitted with head protection chambers for the front passenger and driver, front airbags, side-mounted airbags, and adjustable headrests that protect the driver and passenger from whiplash in the event of a crash. The passenger airbag is fitted with a passenger-sensing deactivation system to protect smaller passengers from the impact of a launching airbag. For day-to-day safety, it is fitted with child seat anchors and a remote anti-theft alarm system. It also comes fitted with a remote transmitter for opening the garage door.
