During the 1990s, while Mitsubishi produced the 3000 GT series, it made fairly continuous changes to the car line. In 1993, the 3000 GT received a bit of freshening up with the addition of leather seats offered standard in the VR-4 edition. 1994 saw some improvements as well with Mitsubishi changing the VR-4 engine power from 300 to 320 hp. This model year also marks the addition of another airbag and changes the headlight design for the entire 3000 GT family.
The line saw few changes until the 1997 model year, when many industry leaders felt Mitsubishi made some mistakes with the car’s design. The engine changes to a 12-valve, V-6 in the base model of the car, and it only offers a meager 161 hp. This switch does a lot of damage to the model’s reputation as a high-performance sports car. This year also marks the appearance of the new St. Louis style arch in the rear spoiler design. Sunroofs became an option on the SL and VR-4 models in 1998, and the company gave the car an entirely new look for its final model year in 1999.
