Mitsubishi has tried for decades to develop an Eclipse Spyder with the undying class of a true convertible. Most sports cars in this class are powered by a meeker engine, but the Spyder maintains full control in front-wheel drive. I test drove and bought the GT Sport. The manual transmission, particularly engaging for a Mitusbishi, has five speeds. I tested both this manual option and the four-speed automatic shift and fell in love with the five-speed manual. The extra gear gave the car a feeling at high speeds that is only matched in a car of much higher class. One of the main recent upgrades of the 2012 Sypder is the way it looks and feels on the inside. Standard features included heated leather front seats and outstanding styling on the dash, with Bluetooth, and a powerful audio system. From the outside, the styling is similar to that of earlier models. Some people have mentioned the weight of the car as a performance drawback, but I found that the extra weight gave the car a feeling of safety around curves at high speeds. The car also handles tight curves well, powering out of turns quickly and with force with a large turning radius. I also find that I can do quite well with gas mileage on the highway, even with the V6, averaging around 23 mpg. I highly recommend the Spyder and would put it in the category of one of the sexiest, most powerful cars I've owned.
