Mitsubishi Outlander

Most people tend to think of the American and European car makers when recalling the great automotive manufacturers of the early 1900s. While there were several that contributed to the growth of this industry, several companies helped lead the way in Asia as well. One of the most well known is the Japanese Mitsubishi company. This company started in 1870 as a heavy industrial company with a wide range of products. It wasn’t long before the executives decided it was time to try their hands at car manufacturing. In 1917, Mitsubishi released its first car, the Model A. The car did very well in the local market, encouraging greater things from the new motor division. In addition to cars, the company also made vans, buses, and other fleet vehicles.

More on the Mitsubishi Outlander
Mitsubishi Outlander Origins

Mitsubishi’s automotive division continued to grow and after several years of production, the decision was made to sell the cars in other International markets. By 1970, there were over 720 authorized Mitsubishi dealers in the U.S. In 2003, the executives from Mitsubishi took another big step and separated the automotive division from the original company entirely, and the Mitsubishi Motor company was born.

Mitsubishi still makes high-quality cars and vehicles for sale in Japan and around the world, including the popular Outlander.

About the Mitsubishi Outlander

The Mitsubishi Outlander appeared in its first generation in the early 2000s and from the beginning was known for its smooth ride and respectable handling. Like many sport utility vehicles (SUVs) of its time, it was designed with similar features. This, in part, explains the reliable handling and comfortable ride this SUV is known for. While some SUVs are designed for off-road fun, the Outlander, especially in the first generation, is better suited for on-road comfort and reliability. For this reason, Mitsubishi made every attempt to give the Outlander plenty of aesthetic appeal instead.

The second generation Mitsubishi Outlander was first offered in the 2007 model year. Mitsubishi chose to make these models larger with bigger engine options to appeal to consumers looking for a more impressive powertrain. While the first generation was classified as a midsize SUV, the next generation offered the option of adding a third row seat for those buyers who needed more cabin space. Even with the improvements, the Outlander often didn’t sell as well as its competitors.

Mitsubishi Outlander Features

In the 2012 model year, Mitsubishi offered the Outlander again. This particular model year has a lot to offer consumers in terms of choice and reliability. Potential buyers will find that the Outlander is available in four distinct trim levels: the ES, SE, XLS, and the GT.

The ES base model features a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine with 168 hp capabilities. There are several features offered standard on the model, including power locks and doors, air-conditioning, and cruise control options.

The SE edition is outfitted with the same engine as the ES and offers the same features. In addition to those options, the SE also is equipped with larger, 18-inch wheels, keyless entry and ignition system, six-disc CD changer, and added safety features.

With the XLS version, buyers are sure to be impressed by the larger standard engine. This model is offered with a three-liter, V-6 motor for more impressive pick up and power. Of course, it has all of the special features of the ES and SE with the addition of third-row seating, automatic climate control, and Bluetooth phone options.

The high end GT Outlander is the most luxurious and well-equipped of them all. It features the same V-6 engine as the XLS. Buyers are also sure to appreciate the weather sensing windshield wipers, satellite radio, and leather seat option.

Mitsubishi Outlander Evolution

Most used car buyers look to the second-generation Mitsubishi Outlander when considering this SUV. Most industry experts feel the Outlander, especially one found in good condition, can be an excellent choice. The second generation offered so much more than the first in the way of space, powertrain options, and additional features.

Starting in 2008, Mitsubishi added the LS trim level with the option of a backup camera. With the common Japanese emphasis on technology, the LS was equipped with a navigation system with 30 GB music storage space capabilities. In 2010, the Outlander further improved with a refreshed and more modern body style. The new style reflected the changes made to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X and is widely popular.
