A coupe is a body style that offers two seats, or sometimes an extra two smaller seats for occasional passengers in the rear. Since the 1960s coupes have referred to any fixed roof cars but differ from sedans in that modern coupes typically do not have door frames, where the side glass windows seal directly against the main body of the car. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) officially distinguishes a coupe from a sedan by the interior area. Where both have fixed roofs, a coupe would have less than 33 cubic feet of interior space. A car with greater interior volume would be considered a sedan.
