Ford Escape Information
The Ford Escape is available as a compact SUV or as a hybrid electric-gas compact SUV. The regular SUV gets a MPG rating of 23 for city driving and 26 for highway driving. The Escape is the result of a partnership venture between Mazda and Ford. The 4-door Escape is designed for economy and as a lower cost model for the SUV market. Introduction of the Escape was completed in 2001 and the model has been in production since that time. A second-generation model is to be rolled out in 2008. It will have sleeker lines and less of the boxy shape of the original Escape. The newer version will come with both a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic transmission. The interior for the 2008 model is completely redesigned. This model is Ford's answer to the need for an economy car for the small family that can also be used to carry passengers or cargo. The new sleeker lines should make it more appealing to the general public.
