The Ford Ranger has been in production since 1982. It is a compact look alike to the larger Ford trucks, only downsized in its dimensions. It comes with either a manual 5-speed transmission or an automatic transmission. The current model can be purchased in a two or four door version. For a two-year period the model could also be purchased in an electric version. The latest model comes with a 4-cylinder engine or a V6 engine and with three horsepower ratings, which are 143 hp, 148 hp and a 207 hp respectively. This miniature of the larger Ford trucks has allowed Ford to keep its hand in the compact truck niche market. There are rumors however that after the 2008 season this model will be replaced. Ford like many of the American automobile manufacturers has been trying to come up with a model that the public will flock to and that is a difficult task.
