The marriage of car, engine and design has been brought together since 1965 with the association of Ford with its Mustang car and Shelby with his engines. The Shelby GT500 carries on this tradition of a stylish small car with a large engine, in this case a 500 hp engine. The plan starting in 2007 is to produce 10,000 units a year for three years at the Flat Rock, Michigan Ford plant. This car is so popular with car collectors that the right to purchase the first car off of this production line was auctioned off to over $600,000. The talk is that in 2008 the engine will be even larger. This love affair for the small Mustang coupled with a large engine has been going on for over 40 years with no let up in sight. The 2007 GT500 is so fast that the speed had to be governed electronically.
