The Kia Sportage was introduced as a mini Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in 1995, but reworked as a compact crossover SUV in 2005. The Sportage offers two trims on a uni-body platform: EX and LX. The EX is equipped on a 173 horsepower 2.7L V6 engine. The LX runs on a 140 horsepower 2.0L four-cylinder engine mated with five-speed manual transmission with front-wheel drive. Optional features for the LX include four-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel drive on manual transmission models, and 173 horsepower 2.7L V6 engine with automatic transmission whether it is front or four-wheel drive. All Sportage models are fitted with various comfort and safety features including air conditioning; six-speaker stereo; CD player; tinted glass; alloy wheels; four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes; traction control, and six standard airbags. The spacious interior of the Kia Sportage provides for a comfortable ride with sufficient head and legroom, while splitting and folding down its rear seats results in a level cargo floor for maximum 67 cubic feet of storage area.
