The first generation of the Mazda CX-9 SUVs were made available in 2007 after appearing in a NY car show in 2006. Also made available in Australia as well as North America, the Mazda CX-9 was built in an effort to compete against vehicles manufactured by Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury. The CX-9 has a V-6 under the hood, and is offered with a six-speed transmission that is automatic. The CX-9 is noted to be the biggest Mazda manufactured. The SUV can hold up to seven passengers comfortably because the interior houses a third row for passengers. Like its cousin the CX-7, the CX-9 is manufactured with three distinct trim levels and the trim levels hold the same titles as those in the CX-7: the Sport, the Touring, and the Grand Touring respectively. The CX-9 can reach a speed of sixty miles per hour in less than eight seconds, and cover a distance of .25 miles in a little over 16 seconds.
