An off-road vehicle is commonly thought of as being any automobile that can drive off of a paved or gravel surface. These vehicles traditionally have large tires with deep treads and an upgraded, flexible suspension system. Many off-road vehicles have been customized for performance and a specific purpose. Motorsports such as Rally Racing, Rockcrawling, and Desert Racing feature highly customized and modified offroad vehicles. More recently, the term “off-road” has been applied to Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs). Though some SUVs do feature four-wheel drive and are capable of driving off road, most have been modified by the manufacturer to be purely street vehicles and are used for their load and passenger carrying capacity. There are, of course, exceptions to this as some SUVs have been highly customized and use their all-terrian capabilities to the fullest. Some common off-road vehicles include Hummers, Land Cruisers, Jeeps, Ford Broncos, Chevrolet Blazers, and Toyota 4Runners.
