Aston Martin, Daimler Ink Technical Partnership

By | December 23, 2013
Daimler and Mercedes-AMG have entered into a partnership with Aston Martin to collaborate on engine technologies, according to an announcement from both groups this week. The announcement is a follow-up to a letter of intent that both parties inked back in July. As the automakers discussed options, they came to a final game plan on the highly-anticipated agreement. AMG and Aston Martin will work together to develop bespoke V8 engines. The new engines will be installed in next-generation Aston Martin vehicles. The partnership is also open to future collaboration on electric and electronic components, although the companies did not go into further detail on this matter. The companies also said they would look for new ways to work together in the future.
In exchange for helping develop Aston Martin engines, Daimler will receive up to 5 percent in shares in Aston Martin. It will also receive observer, non-voting status on the Board. Incidentally, Aston Martin is celebrating its 100th year anniversary next year. Over the years, new models have come and gone, but we are excited and curious to see how Daimler and AMG's influence will enter into Aston Martin technology in the future.
