Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight Concept to Debut at CES in Las Vegas

By | January 02, 2014
Las Vegas is famous for its brilliantly illuminated strip with flashy hotels and casinos, and the Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight Concept will make Vegas shine even brighter. The Audi Sport Quattro Concept caught our fancy when it was rumored that it would make a Frankfurt debut, and more recently we've even seen the rally-supercar in motion. But next week, Audi will introduce its newest version of the concept--the Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight--to the public at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show. The Audi Laserlight Concept is still powered by the ultra-powerful 700-horsepower, 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 and electric motor pairing, but there are a few key differences. The first and perhaps most telling is in the "Laserlight" name, as it combines matrix LED and laser light technology. Two low-profile trapezoidal elements are visible within the headlights, the outer ring uses LED lighting for the low-beams, while the inner element employs the laser light technology for the high beams. Audi says the laser diodes are significantly smaller than the LED diodes, and are only a few microns in diameter. And just how do they affect the Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight Concept's lighting? The Ingolstadt automaker says visibility is up to 1,640 feet, or about twice the LED average. The Audi Laserlight Concept will also be making its CES debut in Plasma Red, and will feature a new wheel design that can be seen in the photos. Source: Audi
