Chevrolet Offers Huge Incentives to Boost March Sales

In addition to the Chevy Truck Month promotion that runs from March 1 to March 31, General Motors will be running a promotion on nearly every vehicle in the Chevrolet lineup: The company will offer supplier pricing on all models and call it the Chevy Open House Event. This marks the second month of increased incentives from GM. This "unprecedented promotional assault," as described by GM, will be backed by heavy advertising that will range from direct mailing to current customers to commercials that will run during the NCAA men's basketball tournament. However, Chevrolet will not offer the promotion on the 2014 Corvette or SS sport sedan. Participation in Truck Month and the Open House Event are optional for all dealers. Along with Chevrolet, Buick and GMC will also offer the Open House Event, but supplier pricing may not be offered. These events are to help boost sales of the Chevrolet Silverado, as the company's market share in the large pickup segment has dropped from 35 to 40 percent to around 33 percent or lower. Looking at the discounts placed on a Silverado model, customers can pay just under $31,000 for a two-wheel drive, double cab Silverado 1500 with the All Star Edition package. This specific model would normally cost around $37,520.
Brian Johnson, Barcalys Capital analyst, told Automotive News that "GM has faced an intense full-court press by its competitors Ford and Ram. The result: the launch has been arguably the least successful large pickup launch over the last 15 years." GM struggled with sales at the beginning of the year, and while some analysts believe that sales will once again be down for February, GM believes that it will gain market share by the close of 2014.
