January 2014 Sales: "Blame it on the Weather"

By | February 03, 2014
We had hoped to see more positive sales numbers for the start of the new year, and while many automakers posted best-ever January sales or broke their personal records, a good deal of automakers remained in negative numbers. Audi started off the year strong with its 37th consecutive month of record sales, making this the longest running monthly record streak in the premium car market. Chrysler Group also announced that this month marked its 46th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. But not all automakers were this fortunate. General Motors had a hard month, as all brands in the group reported negative sales numbers versus the same month last year. This is a continuation of weak sales from the end of last year. Some automakers who saw negative sales numbers blamed inclement weather conditions in their largest markets, thanks to the storms that have continuously hit the East Coast. Take a look at the chart below to see how the automakers kicked off the new year.
