Mazda Produces 4 Millionth Mazda3 Compact
Mazda is quite the achiever these days, especially with its Mazda3 compact sedan, which is not only the best-selling car in Canada--use that one for dinnertime trivia tonight--but it just surpassed the 4 million unit mark in production as well. Since going into production in June 2003, the Mazda3 has wowed critics for its outstanding driving dynamics and more than successfully supplanted the Mazda Protege with more success and recognition than that car ever had. The current model is the third-generation Mazda3, which went on sale as a 2014 model. Based on a shared chassis with the Mazda CX-5 crossover SUV and Mazda6 midsize sedan, the 2014 Mazda3 is the latest iteration of Mazda's Kodo: Soul of Motion design language. Now with a new plant in Mexico up and running, Mazda is producing the Mazda3 in North America; in Hofu, Japan; in China; and in Thailand. In the U.S., a hatchback and sedan version are offered with a choice of two engines. Elsewhere, diesel and hybrid models are available. A high-performance MazdaSpeed3 version is expected, but there is no indication of what it might come equipped with as of yet.As one of our favorite cars we drove in 2013, we wish Mazda the best. With this high-quality, premium-feeling compact car, there's very little compromise in getting exactly the car a driving enthusiast could on the relative cheap. Source: Mazda
