Jeep Mulling Idea of Smaller Vehicle Than Renegade After Full-Size SUV Launch

How small can Jeep make its vehicles, you ask? A lot smaller. Smaller than the 2015 Jeep Renegade, in fact. Just ask Jeep CEO Mike Manley. In an interview with Auto Express at the Geneva Motor Show, Manley said, "[A subcompact] SUV is something we’ll look at, but our priority is above the Grand Cherokee," he said. "That car will be a full-size, seven seater that’ll be bigger than the old Commander and will be called Grand Wagoneer." Reports have circulated that it wasn't until several weeks before the Geneva Motor Show that Jeep had a name for its new compact Renegade SUV. About the size of a Kia Soul, the Jeep Renegade will compete with the likes of the Nissan Juke, Mini Countryman, and Buick Encore, among others. A vehicle below it would likely be based on the next-generation version of the Fiat 500 architecture, a vehicle that shares its chassis with the off-road-oriented Fiat Panda 4x4 in Europe. If built, the subcompact Jeep SUV would be a competitor to the Ford EcoSport, upcoming Volkswagen Taigun, and possibly even the Dacia Duster. If you'll notice, none of those vehicles are sold in the U.S. A smaller-than-Renegade SUV likely wouldn't appeal to American customers as much as it would to overseas buyers. Still, that's an idea to be pondered well into the future. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer will likely supplant the Dodge Durango in size, price, and purpose when it eventually reaches production. And the Renegade will go on sale in the U.S. towards the end of this year with a choice of a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder or a 184-horsepower, 2.4-liter engine. Source: Auto Express

Says who?  I have been looking around for years for something similar to my 98" wheelbase, 2950 lb., 2002 awd RAV4, but with a bit more power and luxury.  I will never get a vehicle with a CVT, so the Juke is out, and the Countryman is too crude and noisy.  The Renegade would at least be a candidate if it were not for the huge blind spot it appears to have.  The upcoming 500X might just fit the bill.
