2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Turbo Add Automatic Transmission
Along with the Ford Fiesta ST and Honda Civic Si, the Fiat 500 Abarth remained one of the few conventional cars available only with a manual transmission. But now the list narrows, as the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth and Turbo models will come available with a six-speed automatic. But automotive purists need not worry, according to Chrysler. The Abarth's new automatic has been reinforced with more clutch plates and an improved heat treatment allowing for higher torque. A Sport mode preserves some of the engaging driving experience of a manual, allowing for fuel-cut upshifts, rev-matching downshifts, corner gear hold, and fast-off gear hold. “Adding an optional automatic transmission makes the Abarth and Abarth Cabrio accessible to an entirely new group of customers who want to enjoy the thrilling driving experience of the Fiat 500 Abarth with the convenience of an automatic gearbox,” said Jason Stoicevich, head of the Fiat brand for North America. The five-speed manual transmission will remain available on the 2015 Fiat 500 Abarth. Both the automatic and manual are paired with a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine good for 160 horsepower. The all-new 2015 Fiat 500 lineup will be shown at the 2014 New York Auto Show coming up soon. Source: Chrysler Group
