BMW Introduces M235i xDrive

By | May 14, 2014
BMW will introduce the M235i xDrive, an all-wheel-drive version of the 2 Series sports coupe. Launching this summer, we expect this model to come with unique handling capabilities over its two-wheel-drive sibling. The BMW M235i xDrive will receive a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six cylinder engine with 320 horsepower and over 330 lb-ft of torque. Also like the rear-wheel-drive version, the M235i xDrive will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission as the only option. However, the xDrive version manages to shave off time in the 0-60 run, achieving 4.6 seconds. This is the first time that all-wheel drive arrives to the 2 Series lineup. Four-wheel power will also be available on the BMW 2 Series convertible. And while BMW released these details for the European market, we think these all-wheel-drive versions are also likely coming to the U.S. We had the chance to drive the rear-wheel drive M235i, and it was a rewarding experience. We were impressed by its responsive drive, simple cabin, and comfortable seats. Currently, this is the top-of-the-line model in the 2 Series here, but we can't wait to drive the rest of the lineup. Also joining the BMW 2 Series line is the 228i coupe, which achieves 240 horsepower from a smaller turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine. This model will provide entry level performance in the lineup. According to BMW, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Source: BMW
