Video: BMW X5 eDrive Overview

By Matthew Askari | May 25, 2014
The BMW X5 eDrive Concept was originally shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and most recently at the New York show last month. In a new short video, Gerhard Thiel, project director for the Concept X5 eDrive, talks about some of the features and attributes of the newest addition to the BMW X5 SUV family. The X5 eDrive employs a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine--good for 245 hp--paired with a 95 hp electric motor, making for 340 hp combined. As Thiel mentions in the video, the X5 eDrive can run about 15-20 miles in pure electric mode, meaning you can do "short commuting trips" without using any gas. The X5 eDrive can also be plugged into a regular household electrical outlet. Impressively, the plug-in hybrid has an almost identical 0-60 mph time as the 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel engine.
