Will the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo Last Another Year?

By | May 29, 2014
Despite reports that Mitsubishi will discontinue the Lancer Evo, there is now some hope for the popular sports car. AutoGuide, speaking with Mitsubishi communications rep Amanda Savercool, reported that the Evo will last at least through the new model year. “Production of North American-specification Lancer Evolution models for the 2015 model year will commence in July 2014," she told the publication. But it's no surprise we were worried about the Lancer Evo's future. The car hasn't seen a major update since the 2008 model year. Mitsubishi has gotten rid of a number of its models in recent years, including the Endeavor crossover, Galant sedan, Eclipse coupe, and Eclipse Spyder convertible. It has even cut trims on the Lancer lineup.
The 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 291 horsepower. It starts at $35,790 when equipped with the standard five-speed manual transmission. With the optional six-speed dual-clutch, the Evo starts at $38,990. Mitsubishi is looking towards new models that will build its success in the U.S. The automaker recently introduced the Mirage subcompact car and is looking to bring a plug-in version of the Outlander SUV in the last quarter of 2015 or the first quarter of 2016.
