2014 BMW 2 Series Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick+

By | June 27, 2014
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has started to announce the recipients of the Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards for the 2014 model year, and for the first time, a BMW has earned a "good" rating in the new small frontal overlap test. Added to that, the BMW 2 Series has become the first model in the lineup to earn either of the Institute's safety awards for 2014. The 2014 BMW 2 Series has earned the title of Top Safety Pick+ thanks to a strong performance in the Institute's crash tests and an advanced rating for front crash prevention. The 2 Series replaces the 1 Series for the 2014 model year and features a complete redesign, and while its scores were solid across the board, the head restraint rating applies only to models manufactured after June 2014. To even qualify for the Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must earn a "good" or "acceptable" rating in the small frontal overlap test, which was instituted in 2012. Many automakers are still struggling to earn these ratings. The 2014 BMW 2 Series, however, managed to accomplish this and has become one of five midsize luxury cars to earn the title.
