Mercedes-Benz E-Class Earns Top Safety Pick+ Rating
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety continues to make its crash safety tests more challenging, pushing automakers to make their vehicles safer and offer better safety technology. Most recently, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has earned the Top Safety Pick+ rating after scoring a good rating in the small overlap front crash test. The standard front crash prevention system didn’t hurt, either. To achieve this coveted rating, the E-Class now offers a strengthened footwell area of the occupant compartment for better protection during small frontal overlap crashes. However, this change is only current on four-door models manufactured after January 2014. During the new small frontal overlap test, the IIHS noted that while lower leg injuries would be a possibility, significant damage to the head and chest of an occupant was low, thanks to the different airbags that deployed. Overall, the driver's space was well-maintained. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fourth large luxury vehicle to earn this rating for the 2014 model year. Thanks to technologies like the standard Collision Prevention Assist and the available Pre-Safe Brake system, the E-class achieved top marks in every test, including front crash prevention.
