Subaru Plans for Next-Gen BRZ

By | July 08, 2014
Although we recently speculated that Toyota may not be building another sports coupe with Subaru, it looks like that isn't the case. Earlier this week, Subaru announced that it will be building the next-generation BRZ with Toyota Motor Corp. On its own, Subaru wouldn't have been able to produce another generation. The current generation of the BRZ/FR-S sales numbers have seen their ups and downs, and for the month of June, BRZ sales rose six percent, while FR-S sales plummeted by 24 percent. In a recent news article from Austrailan website drive.com.au, Toyota's chief engineer of the joint sports coupe was quoted as saying that Subaru may not be involved with the next generation. And when talking about the future of the model, Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, president of Subaru's parent company, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd., responded by telling Automotive News that, "If I were to be told that, I'd pass out. It's not going to be just one generation." If the plans of what we heard in regards to the new generation are sound, we look forward to what the partnership will create. While there may be some stress thanks to Toyota's more recent partnership with BMW, we're glad the BRZ/FR-S lineup is continuing. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required)
