2015 Volvo XC90 Has 'Thor Headlights,' New Suspension

Volvo is slowly peeling away at the layers of the all-new XC90. In its latest announcement, Volvo revealed the SUV will come with new 'Thor Hammer' lights as well as more interior room and a variety of changes under the hood. The SUV's T-shaped running lights represent a new design direction for Volvo. The unique lights resemble the shape of the hammer used by Norse god of thunder, Thor. In its release, the automaker called the lights "the new face of Volvo," meaning that we may be seeing these on the entire Volvo lineup in the future. We already knew that the XC90 will sit on Volvo's new SPA platform, which can be used on a wide array of vehicles and increase economies of scale for the company. According to Volvo, this platform will allow for more passenger room in the second and third rows, which will allow for a total of seven people to fit comfortably inside the vehicle. Volvo now revealed that the XC90 will use a double wishbone suspension, and a five-mode electronically adjustable air suspension will be available. The XC90 will offer a wide variety of powertrains. A family of 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinders will be available, as well as a supercharged and turbocharged T6 engine with 316 horsepower. A T8 plug-in hybrid version with a total of 400 horsepower is also on the docket for 2015. Because of this engine option, the Volvo XC90 will be the only seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV available for sale in the U.S. The XC90 is long overdue for a redesign, considering the original SUV debuted in 2002 and hasn't undergone major changes since. A full reveal of the SUV is expected in two weeks, so stay tuned. Source: Volvo
