2016 Chevrolet Volt Will Debut at NAIAS
General Motors will introduce the second-generation Chevrolet Volt at the 2015 North American International Auto Show this coming January. A teaser image of the new car has surfaced, and we can see that the Volt will ditch its dramatically angular back end for a softer, rounded look. Beyond this, however, it is anyone's guess how the 2016 Volt will appear. It is likely that the 2016 Chevrolet Volt will boast increased electric range from its current 38 miles. The Volt may ride on a new platform and come with more features than the previous model. According to GM, Volt owners are currently averaging over 63 percent of their overall driving in EV mode, without having to use gasoline as a back-up. The automaker estimates that most drivers visit the gas station less than once a month. Over 500 million gas-free miles have been driven in Volt since the car's 2010 debut. Over 65,000 Volts have been sold. Although sales were slow to kick off, the Volt's numbers went up 13 percent last month, compared to July 2013. According to GM, a high proportion of owners used to own a Toyota Prius right before purchasing the Volt. Until it arrives on the market, buyers will have the option of choosing the new 2015 Volt, which comes with some minor updates from 2014. Check out our post on what to expect on this model.
