GM Builds New Facility for Cadillac ATS and CTS
General Motors will spend $174 million on a new stamping facility in Lansing, Mich. that will produce components for the Cadillac ATS, Cadillac CTS, and a future product. The facility is part of the larger Lansing Grand River assembly plant that manufactures the ATS, CTS, and CTS V-Series cars. The plant is also set to produce the next-generation Camaro sports car. According to GM, the additional facility will save the company around $14 million a year in costs related to material handling. "Today’s announcement demonstrates GM’s commitment to strengthening key plant capabilities related to quality and efficiency,” said GM North America Manufacturing Manager Christine Sitek in a company statement released today. The new facility, which will create or maintain 145 jobs, will start operations sometime in 2016. GM has invested more than $530 million in its Lansing facilities within the last five years. GM is also planning for a $37 million expansion to its Lansing Delta Township Assembly Plant, and its supplier is building a $65.6 million plant in Watertown Township around the Lansing region as well. Since 2009, GM has announced investment of almost $11 billion in plants around the U.S. Around $777 million of that money is from this year alone. Source: General Motors
